ABOUT ME

A multi-faceted artist, Stian Jebsen is a Norwegian actor, singer-songwriter, and bass-baritone based in Manchester with a classical voice training foundation. Having recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Quentin Hayes, Stian is devoted to honing variety and quality in performance. In the fall of 2021, he portrayed the role of Truffaldin in the RNCM production of Ariadne auf Naxos, followed by an ensemble role in the Marriage of Figaro in the spring of 2022. That same year, he portrayed Marco in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi as part of Bergen National Opera’s prestigious summer academy, Opera By The Fjord.

In 2023, he made his official pop debut as one of the singers for RNCM’s 50th anniversary edition of the Session Orchestra where he performed pieces by Elbow, The Stone Roses, The Verve and New Order. His first proper musical theater debut came in July that same year when he portrayed Cinderella‘s Prince in Sondheim‘s Into The Woods - brilliantly directed by Sarah Tipple. One reviewer said of his performance: “The two princes, Stian Jebsen and Hakeem Henderson played their characters to the hilt, finding comedy and sincerity in being charming and insincere.” Now, in 2024, he’s made an exciting foray into the world of shadow puppetry with LightsOn Theatre and also had the privilege of premiering the role of Alistair - one of 10 principal roles in RNCM’s first ever community opera, Silverwood; a hugely collaborative project involving over 140 performers.

In 2024, Stian co-founded the collective “Northern Voices”, a group of six young musicians making waves across the music scene in the north of England. Read more about Northern Voices here.

Stian has previously trained under opera singers Simon Kirkbride and Hilde Haraldsen Sveen and performed in masterclasses and lessons led by several internationally acclaimed performers such as opera singers Mari Eriksmoen and Solveig Kringlebotn, actor/singer Ståle Ytterli, and pianist and broadcaster David Owen Norris.

Stian is a passionate performer and alongside singing, acting is one of his main focus areas. Since the start of his career, he has approached singing and performing from an actor’s perspective - giving him an edge on stage. He now wants to take this further and alongside his musical career, he is looking to take on more straight acting work.

In his work and life, Stian draws a lot of inspiration from traveling and language learning and growing up a traveling bilingual, he quickly discovered the value of interacting with different cultures and mindsets. In his own words: “our world is made richer by diversity, and we all suffer if we never look beyond our own borders.”
